Riigikogu

Estonian art is exhibited in several rooms of Toompea Castle. Since 2001, the Exhibition Hall on the first floor has offered opportunities to enjoy works of painting, photographic art, applied arts, jewellery design, clothing art and textile arts, as well as graphic arts, sculptures and video installations. Exhibitions are open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

In 2001, members of the Riigikogu Women’s Union  had an idea to organise art exhibitions in Toompea in cooperation with the Estonian Artists' Association. The Exhibition Hall opened with an exhibition of paintings by artist Ado Lill in May the same year. By now, the Castle has hosted exhibitions of paintings , works of photographic art, applied arts, jewellery design, clothing art and textile arts, as well as graphic art, sculptures and video installations. Exhibitions are changed every six weeks, in line with the work cycle of the Riigikogu  from September to June. Exhibition programmes are born out of cooperation between the Estonian Artists’ Association and the Chancellery of the Riigikogu.

Exhibition called "Tutti Frutti" by Kamille Saabre in 2014.

The art scene in Toompea Castle is summarised in the book „60 Artists in Riigikogu Exhibition Hall“, published in 2012. A long-time Vice-President of the Estonian Artists’ Association Anu Kalm writes in the introduction: “The choice of artists is representative of the many generations and styles. The objective is to exhibit art that resonates with the building and speaks to the people working there.”

Exhibitions are open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Besides the Exhibition Hall, exhibitions are regularly held also on the second floor of the southern wing of Toompea Castle, and in the lobby  and on the first floor of the Riigikogu Building.

To visit exhibitions, come to the left-hand foyer  of Toompea Castle and inform the officer at the entrance desk. Please carry a valid photo-identity document with you when visiting an exhibition.

Welcome and enjoy the art!
