The delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) begins a two-day working visit to Rome today. During the visit, meetings will be held to discuss the security situation in Europe and support for Ukraine.

According to Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson, the Committee wishes to discuss the security situation in Europe and continuing support for Ukraine in Russia’s ongoing war of aggression with representatives of the Parliament and Government of Italy. “At these meetings, we will discuss what strategy and steps are needed to achieve a just and lasting peace in Europe. We must provide Ukraine with the support it needs to achieve victory and exert even stronger economic pressure on Russia than before in order to create the conditions for a genuine peace process. At the same time, it is of the utmost importance that we remain united as allies,” he said.

The delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee will have meetings with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Senate Maurizio Gasparri and members of the Committee, Chairman of the Committee on European Union Policies of the Senate Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata and Vice President of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies Lia Quartapelle. The delegation will also meet with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli.

The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu will also attend the round table discussion “The hour of Europe’s decisive choice: Should we give in to aggressor or push it back?”, organised by Guido Carli Association, where Mihkelson will make a speech.

Mihkelson is accompanied on the visit by members of the Foreign Affairs Committee Ester Karuse and Henn Põlluaas.
