The Chairman of the National Defence Committee Peeter Tali and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson are at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CFSP/CSDP) that takes place in Ireland today and tomorrow. The agenda includes the security situation and further support for Ukraine.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mariana Betsa and expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations Jana Kobzová are present at the Conference in Dublin to discuss Russia’s continuing war of aggression against Ukraine and the needed support for Ukraine. The Chairmen of the Committees will discuss possible ways of increasing pressure on Russia and the role of the EU in further supporting Ukraine, ensuring security, and achieving fair and lasting peace in Europe.

Also on the agenda are the geopolitical situation in the Middle East and defence of democracy, including countering non-conventional threats, protecting critical infrastructure, and enhancing social resilience. Other topics include priorities of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy.

Tali and Mihkelson will also take part in a separate meeting of Nordic and Baltic parliamentarians in the framework of the conference.

The Inter-Parliamentary Conference is part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU from 1 July until the end of December, with priorities including competitiveness, security, and defending EU values. The conference is co-organised by the European Parliament.
