From today until Thursday, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson will be in Canada, where he will participate in a joint visit by parliamentarians from six countries and attend meetings in Toronto and Ottawa.
On Sunday, Mihkelson will meet with leaders of the Estonian Central Council in Toronto, and on Monday he will give a lecture at the University of Toronto on the security situation in Europe and deterring Russia.
Mihkelson will then travel to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, where on Tuesday and Wednesday he will participate in a joint visit by the chairs and members of parliamentary committees from the Nordic Countries and the Baltic States, Poland and Ukraine to discuss stronger support for Ukraine and relations with the United States.
The international delegation will meet with Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Francis Scarpaleggia and the Standing Committee on National Defence of the House of Commons, as well as with Speaker of the Senate of Canada Raymonde Gagné and the leaders of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. The delegation will also have a meeting with the Canada-Ukraine Friendship Group. In addition, they will discuss support for Ukraine and other issues of importance to foreign and security policy with representatives of universities and think tanks.
The meetings in Ottawa will be attended by the chairs and members of parliamentary committees from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, who are part of United4Ukraine, a global parliamentary network established to support Ukraine.
On Thursday, Mihkelson will continue his visit to Toronto with members of parliaments of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine. They will meet with representatives of the Government and the Legislative Assembly of the province of Ontario, and have meetings with representatives of Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian national communities, and civil society. Mihkelson will also speak at the discussion on transatlantic security organized by the Estonian Canadian Business Chamber.
