{"id":5671,"date":"2026-06-19T11:38:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T08:38:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/?page_id=5671"},"modified":"2026-08-26T20:09:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T17:09:00","slug":"salaries-of-mps","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/en\/parliament-of-estonia\/composition\/salaries-of-mps\/","title":{"rendered":"Salaries of MPs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The salaries of the MPs are regulated by the Salaries of Higher State Servants Act.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The salaries of the members of the Riigikogu are calculated by multiplying the highest salary rate of higher state servants by the corresponding coefficients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highest salary rate is indexed by 1&nbsp;April of each calendar year to the highest salary rate index, the value of which depends 20&nbsp;per&nbsp;cent on the annual increase of the consumer price index and 80&nbsp;per&nbsp;cent on the annual increase in the receipt of the pension insurance part of social tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The indexed highest salary rate is 9724 euro and 32 cents. Multiplying it by the relevant coefficient, the result is the salary of a member of the Riigikogu which is 6320 euro and 81 cents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Salary coefficients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Member of the Riigikogu \u2013 0.65<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deputy chairman of a committee and deputy chairman of a parliamentary group \u2013 0.75<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vice-President of the Riigikogu, chairman of a committee and chairman of a parliamentary group \u2013 0.85<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>President of the Riigikogu \u2013 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-info is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The salaries of the members of the Riigikogu are calculated by multiplying the highest salary rate of higher state servants by the corresponding coefficients.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Work related expenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work related expenses are compensated to the MPs on the basis of a resolution of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/en\/parliament-of-estonia\/composition\/board-riigikogu\/\">Board of the Riigikogu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work related expenses are compensated to the MPs on the basis of expense receipts in the amount of up to 25 % of the salary of the MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work related expenses of an MP include expenses for transport, communication and postage, travel, office, training, representation and entertaining, translation and interpretation, housing, and commissioning of studies and expert opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expenses connected with acquiring property are not compensated to MPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Housing costs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the Riigikogu whose official place of residence according to the population register is not Tallinn or the rural municipalities of Harku, J\u00f5el\u00e4htme, Kiili, Rae, Saku, Saue or Viimsi are entitled to compensation for their housing costs pursuant to the procedure established by the Board of the Riigikogu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The compensation is paid on the basis of documents attesting to the housing costs, and the sum may not exceed 20 % of the salary of the MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic interests of MPs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MPs declare their interests pursuant to the procedure provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riigiteataja.ee\/en\/eli\/529012015001\/consolide\/current\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anti-corruption Act<\/a> and via the electronic register or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emta.ee\/en?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-Tax Board\/e-Customs environment<\/a>.
