The President of the Riigikogu, other committees and the parliamentary groups, as well as individual members of the Riigikogu (e.g., through the parliamentary friendship groups) also conduct foreign relations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riigiteataja.ee\/en\/eli\/517012014001\/consolide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Foreign Relations Act<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President of the Republic<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/valitsus.ee\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Government of the Republic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/vm.ee\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/a> and other state agencies and local governments, according to their competence, also represent the Republic of Estonia in foreign relations, in addition to the Riigikogu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Riigikogu:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>passes Acts and resolutions relating to foreign relations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ratifies and denounces treaties;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>adopts statements, declarations and communications concerning foreign policy or accedes to them;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>conducts relations with the parliaments of other states and with interparliamentary organisations, and forms foreign delegations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>decides upon the use of the defence forces in performance of international duties of&nbsp; Estonia;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>during its spring session, discusses the foreign policy of the state and its implementation on the basis of a report from the Government of the Republic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/wpcms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aFEP_5356-971x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">King Carl XVI Gustaf and President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foreign Affairs Committee:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>coordinates the foreign relations of the Riigikogu;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>presents draft legislation concerning the formation of the delegations of the Riigikogu;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>monitors the activities of the delegations and parliamentary friendship groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/wpcms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aFEP_1629-1024x656.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kohtumine Eestis mitteresideeruvate suursaadikutega<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delegations of the Riigikogu:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>are formed to communicate with interparliamentary organisations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop interparliamentary relations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>participate in international forums in order to shape the positions supporting the interests of Estonia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides the Foreign Affairs Committee and the delegations, the President of the Riigikogu, other committees, the parliamentary groups and individual members of the Riigikogu (for example through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riigikogu.ee\/en\/parliament-of-estonia\/parliamentary-friendship-groups\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"5730\">parliamentary friendship groups<\/a>) are also involved in the foreign relations of the Riigikogu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Foreign relations of the Riigikogu are coordinated by the Foreign Affairs Committee and the delegations of the Riigikogu.
