he Riigikogu passed the first reading of the Bill on Amendments to § 61 of the State Pension Insurance Act (1 SE), initiated by the Social Democratic Party Faction and the Reform Party Faction. The Bill provides for the increase in the base amount of the pension by EEK 250 and the rate of national pensions by EEK 150. The initiators of the Bill share the opinion that the growth of state pensions proceeding from the indexation of pensions is not sufficient, because it is almost two times smaller than the growth of salaries. The initiators say that after the supplementary increase in pensions, they shall grow at the same rate as the average salary. The growth of the receipt proceeding from the pension insurance part of social taxes allows to increase pensions and which has generated a sufficient surplus for the extraordinary increase in pensions.
