Riigikogu passed Professions Act
The Riigikogu passed with 61 votes in favour the Professions Act (213 SE), initiated by the Government. The Act provides the bases for creation and functioning and supervision of the system of professions. The aim of the Act is to create an integrated system of awarding qualifications and ensure the functioning thereof with a view to improving the competitiveness of Estonian workers and developing, assessing, recognising and comparing their professional competence. The system of professions is a part of the qualification system involved with recognition of study results. The system of professions integrates education system with the labour market. This Act enters into force on 1 September 2008, subsection 10 (2) and subsection 15 (6) of the Act enter into force on 1 January 2011. Nobody voted against the Act and nobody abstained.
