The Riigikogu concluded the second reading of the Bill on Amendments to the Food Act (322 SE), initiated by the Government, and sent it to the third reading.
The requirements of EU directives which are the basis for the requirements provided for in the Government Regulations concerning food additives have been incorporated into directly applicable EU Regulations and, in view of that, two provisions delegating authority to the Government in respect of the establishment of Regulations concerning food additives, set out in the Food Act, are repealed. As of 1 December 2012, the relevant European Commission Regulation laying down specifications for food additives is applied. Starting from 1 June 2013, Commission Regulations will be applied, establishing, respectively, a Union list of food additives and their conditions of use, and a list of food additives approved for use in food additives, food enzymes, food flavourings and nutrients.
