Riigikogu deliberated amendment of President of Republic Election Act
On the motion of the Constitutional Committee, the second reading of the Bill on Amendments to the President of the Republic Election Act and the Local Government Organisation Act (776 SE), initiated by the Estonian Reform Party Faction, the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union Faction, the Estonian Green Party Faction and the Social Democratic Party Faction, was concluded. The Bill specifies the procedure for election of representatives of the local government councils to the electoral body who elects the President. According to the Bill, representatives are elected in the council in one round of voting and each member of the council has one vote. The candidate or candidates who receive the greatest number of votes are elected. The Bill was sent to the third reading.
