Today, on 4 September, a Riigikogu delegation begins its visit to the People’s Republic of China. The visit lasts from 5 until 11 September, and the Estonian delegation is led by Vice-President of the Riigikogu Keit Pentus and Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee Urmas Klaas. It is a return visit to the visit by the Financial and Economic Committee of the National People’s Congress of China in 2008.
In Klaas’ words, development of economic relations with the country with one of the largest economies in the world is important for Estonia. “High-level political contacts indisputably contribute to development of economic relations,” said Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee.
During the visit, there will be meetings with Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC) Huá Jiànmǐn who was in Estonia in May this year, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Committee of the NPC Shi Xiushi and members of the Committee, as well as with members of the China–Estonia Friendship Group, and the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of China will be visited.
Then the delegation will go to Xi’an to meet members of the local National People’s Congress of Shaanxi Province. After that, the Riigikogu delegation will visit the Shanghai World Exposition together with the Commissioner General of the Estonian Pavilion Toomas Tiivel and meet members of the local National People’s Congress.
The Riigikogu delegation also includes Deputy Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Estonia–China Parliamentary Group of the Riigikogu Kalev Kallo, and members of the Economic Affairs Committee Sven Sester, Ester Tuiksoo, Jüri Tamm and Marek Strandberg.In Beijing, Ambassador of Estonia to China Andres Unga will also join the delegation.
