The Riigikogu passed the Resolution “Appointment of Saale Laos a Justice of the Supreme Court” (563 OE).

It was a secret ballot: 80 members of the Riigikogu were in favour and 2 abstained.

Saale Laos is a distinguished expert of public law. She has participated in the drafting of the Special Part of the Draft Penal Code (the Chapter on offences against public health), as well as in the legislative proceeding of the Draft Code of Criminal Procedure in the Riigikogu. She has also led the drafting of the Penal Code Implementation Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure Implementation Act. While working as an adviser to the Chancellor of Justice, Saale Laos has acquired in-depth knowledge in the field of constitutional review, checking the conformity of legislative acts with the Constitution. Saale Laos’s academic education and work experience testify that she is a suitable candidate for the position of a justice of the Supreme Court, the application by the Supreme Justice of the Supreme Court says.

The Supreme Justice of the Supreme Court made a proposal to appoint Saale Laos a justice of the Supreme Court as of 3 March 2014.

The Bill on Amendments to § 29 of the Citizenship Act (459 SE), initiated by the Social Democratic Party Faction, was dropped from the legislative proceeding of the Riigikogu.

At the voting, 38 members of the Riigikogu supported the rejection of the Bill and 37 were against.

The Bill on Amendments to the Income Tax Act and § 3 of the Social Tax Act (533 SE), initiated by the Social Democratic Party Faction, was also dropped from the legislative proceeding of the Riigikogu.

At the voting, 41 members of the Riigikogu supported the rejection of the Bill and 30 were against.
