The Riigikogu passed at the first reading with 78 votes in favour the Resolution On the Release from Office of Justice of the Supreme Court Jaano Odar (213 OE), submitted by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Jaano Odar will be released from office of Justice of the Supreme Court at his own request in connection with his retirement from February 1, 2004. Nobody voted against the Resolution, one member of the Riigikogu abstained.

On the motion of the Environment Committee as leading committee, the first reading of the Bill on Amendments to the Earth’s Crust Act (209 SE), initiated by the Estonian Reform Party Faction, Estonian People’s Union Faction and the Union for the Republic ? Res Publica Faction, was concluded. Motions to amend are to be submitted to the leading committee by 27 January, 18.00.

On the motion of the Legal Affairs Committee as leading committee, the Bill on Amendments to the Restrictions on Acquisition of Immovables Act (185 SE), initiated by Members of the Riigikogu Eldar Efendijev, Kaarel Pürg and Mihhail Stalnuhhin, was rejected at the first reading. 52 members of the Riigikogu voted in favour of the motion of the Legal Affairs Committee and 20 against it, nobody abstained. The Bill was withdrawn from legislative proceeding.

On the motion of the Finance Committee as leading committee, the Bill on Amendments to the Income Tax Act (151 SE), initiated by the Isamaaliit Faction, was rejected at the first reading. 40 members of the Riigikogu voted in favour of the motion of the Finance Committee and 22 against it, nobody abstained. The Bill was withdrawn from legislative proceeding.
