Deliberation of Bill concerning raising of pensionable age continued at additional sitting
At the additional sitting which started on Tuesday, 23 March, at 6 p.m., the Riigikogu continued the second reading of
the Bill on Amendments to the State Pension Insurance Act and Other Associated Acts (
652 SE), initiated by the Government, which was adjourned due to the end of the working hours of the sitting of the plenary assembly. According to the Bill, the pensionable age will be equal for men and women and it will rise by three months every year as of 2017, to 65 years.
At the sitting, the presenter of the Bill, member of the Social Affairs Committee Heljo Pikhof continued answering the questions from the Members of the Riigikogu. Thereafter, a debate was held and then review of the 139 motions to amend the Bill was started. Before votes on these, submitters of the motions to amend used the opportunity to take ten-minute recesses. 52 motions to amend had been voted on by the end of the additional sitting on Wednesday morning, 24 March. The legislative proceeding of the Bill will continue at the regular sitting of the Riigikogu at 2 p.m.
