Today, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) held a video conference with the members of the Committee on Foreign Policy of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, where they discussed the situation in Ukraine and how to continue supporting Ukraine in the future.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson said that Estonia together with its allies and partners would continue providing military, economic and political assistance to Ukraine, but it was necessary to do much more than had been done so far. “Ukraine will need our help and support until Ukraine has won the war, Russia has been strategically defeated and withdrawn its troops from the territory of Ukraine, and the perpetrators of the crime of aggression, in particular Russia’s political leadership, have been brought to justice,” he pointed out.

According to him, at present Ukraine needs first of all weapons and ammunition from the Western allies, but it is also necessary to continue with imposing and implementing the sanctions in order to put even more pressure on Russia. “We will keep on working to establish an international special tribunal under the auspices of the United Nations to bring to justice those involved in planning, preparing, initiating or executing the crime of aggression against Ukraine. Helping Ukraine on its path to EU and NATO membership will also continue,” Mihkelson assured.

Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu promised at the meeting with their Ukrainian colleagues that they would continue raising issues related to supporting Ukraine at all the meetings and visits they attend. The Foreign Affairs Committee has held regular video conferences with the members of the Committee on Foreign Policy of the Verkhovna Rada since February last year.
