The Chairman of the Riigikogu expressed support to the President of Georgia on the path towards EU and NATO integration
“Estonia continues to support Georgia on its path to EU and NATO integration; this is a matter of principle for us,” said the President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor on Monday during a meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
“In addition to supporting Georgia’s efforts in the European Union and NATO, the practical cooperation of our countries plays an important role in preparing for domestic reforms in Georgia. I am glad that our partnership has been successful here. And we hope to continue it,” Nestor added.
The President of the Riigikogu acknowledged the outstanding contribution of the Georgian armed forces at missions that ensure international security, and their good cooperation with the North Atlantic Allies. “Estonia is in support of giving Georgia a NATO Action Plan,” Nestor affirmed.
Nestor and Margvelashvili also discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation and expressed a mutual interest in continuing to tighten the contacts between the two countries.
In addition, they also discussed the situation in Ukraine, EU Eastern Partnership policy and regional security issues.
MPs Andres Herkel, Kalev Kotkas and Mati Raidma also took part in the meeting.
