President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar is on a visit to Moldova
The Speakers of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are on a joint visit in Moldova until Wednesday to express support to Moldova’s democracy.
President of the Riigikogu of Estonia Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa and Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Juozas Olekas will travel to Chișinău today, where they will meet with President of the Parliament of Moldova Igor Grosu and after that, give a joint press conference.
According to Hussar, Moldova showed remarkable resilience to Russia’s attempts to interfere in its internal affairs during and after the September elections. “In spite of continuing pressure, Moldova remains committed to its European course. We acknowledge the determination of the Moldovan people and support Moldova in strengthening its democratic institutions, security, and economic stability,” the President of the Riigikogu said. Hussar added that Moldova’s integration into the European Union was very important. “We hope that the first stages of accession negotiations with both Moldova and Ukraine will begin as soon as possible and that this process will continue without further delays,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Baltic Speakers will meet with Prime Minister of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu, speak at the Parliament of Moldova, have a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova Valeriu Chiveri and participate in a working lunch with President of Moldova Maia Sandu.
