Today Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas will give an overview of the activities of the Government of the Republic in implementing the European Union policies to the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia). Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Kalle Palling will also make a report.

Discussion of the European Union policy and live broadcast on the web begin at 10 a.m.

In Palling’s opinion, there are more and more political powers across Europe today that try to gain cheap popularity with slogans claiming that the idea of the European Union has passed its best before date. He emphasises that Estonia did, does, and will need a strong and unified Europe that is open to cooperation.

In his report, Palling will talk about the principle of free movement of data and digital platforms that could be of help in increasing Europe’s competitive advantage. In addition to that, he will discuss the relations between the EU and Russia, and the Eastern Partnership. These issues will also be in the forefront during the Estonian presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will begin in June 2017.

Palling will also speak of Brexit and the discussion about the future of Europe after it, the foreign investments plan for Africa and its neighbourhood following the migration crisis, and defence cooperation and economic security of Europe.
