At today’s additional sitting, the Riigikogu passed the Statement of the Riigikogu in Support of the Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine in Connection with the Aggression in the Kerch Strait, submitted by 89 members of the Riigikogu.

With this Statement (766 AE), the Riigikogu expresses Estonia’s support to Ukraine’s inalienable right to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Riigikogu condemns the attack on Ukrainian ships, and the wounding and detention of Ukrainian seamen perpetrated by the Russian Federation in the Kerch Strait.

The Riigikogu emphasises in the Statement that Russia must immediately release the Ukrainian ships with their crews, and allow them unhindered passage to Ukrainian ports. The Riigikogu calls for the restoration of free shipping in the Kerch Strait and Azov Sea.

In the Statement, the Riigikogu urges all nations to support Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity, and to heed the call of the Riigikogu to condemn Russia’s aggression against the sovereign Ukraine, and not recognise the illegal annexation of Crimea.

During the debate, Andres Herkel took the floor on behalf of the Free Party Faction, Enn Eesmaa on behalf of the Centre Party Faction, Marianne Mikko on behalf of the Social Democratic Party Faction, Jürgen Ligi on behalf of the Reform Party Faction, Mart Nutt on behalf of the Faction Isamaa and Henn Põlluaas on behalf of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party Faction.
