Vaga, Raid and Kross observe parliamentary elections in Hungary
Members of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Kristo Enn Vaga, Juku-Kalle Raid and Eerik-Niiles Kross will observe the parliamentary elections in Hungary on Sunday within the framework of a joint International Election Observation Mission (IEOM).
“The upcoming elections in Hungary are of crucial importance for the country’s future and will also have a direct impact on Hungary’s relations with the European Union,” Kristo Enn Vaga said. Vaga is a member of the Estonian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and he will participate in the elections observation mission in Budapest on Sunday.
The OSCE PA delegation of election observers includes 109 members of national parliaments from 38 countries. They are closely cooperating with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the 32-member delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In total, over 350 observers will be monitoring the Hungarian parliamentary elections under the auspices of the international observation mission.
The mission will assess whether the elections in Hungary are conducted legitimately and respect the democratic standards. The observers will evaluate several aspects of the elections, including the campaign environment and election day procedures, and determine whether the elections are conducted transparently and in a way that supports public confidence.
The Riigikogu is represented at the observation mission by member of the Estonian delegation to the OSCE PA Kristo Enn Vaga and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Juku-Kalle Raid, who belong to the delegation of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and member of the Estonian delegation to PACE Eerik-Niiles Kross, who is in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe delegation.
