At Estonia’s initiative, the First Three Seas Parliamentary Forum, where the Speakers of the Parliaments of Three Seas countries will discuss in virtual format the topics of energy, transport, and digital sector infrastructure, will be held today.

Host of the Forum and President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Jüri Ratas has pointed out that the involvement of the parliaments would facilitate achieving the practical goals of the cooperation format and enhance the sustainability of its activities. “Cross-border cooperation is essential for achieving the 3SI objectives,” Ratas added.

Ratas said that the common economic and customs space of the European Union had paved the way for the stable development of the continent as a whole, but still the parliaments were ready to tackle the remaining shortcomings in terms of economic disparity and outdated infrastructure. In his opinion, regional economic development will increase the social cohesion and resilience of the European Union, thus strengthening also regional security.

The Three Seas Parliamentary Forum will be attended by the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovenia. Member of the United States House of Representatives Adam Kinzinger and Head of the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund Origination Joe Philipsz will be keynote speakers. The event will be moderated by Estonian journalist Neeme Raud.

The Three Seas Initiative (Three Seas Initiative, 3SI) cooperation format was launched at the presidential level in 2016 as a platform to provide political support for accelerating economic development as well as for enhancing intra-regional and cross-border cooperation and connectivity among 12 EU member states between the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. The United States, Germany, and the European Commission are the strategic partners of the 3SI.

The initiative promotes cooperation for the development of infrastructure in the energy, transport, and digital sectors, contributing to economic growth and energy security, as well as to boosting cohesion and unity in Europe.

Live broadcast of today’s forum can be viewed online from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Video recording of the forum can be viewed on YouTube channel.
