The Estonia–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Riigikogu expresses its deep condolences to the people of Azerbaijan on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre
The Parliamentary Friendship Group commemorates the 600 civilian victims and expresses its support to the state of Azerbaijan in building a lasting peace on its territory.
“We share the pain of the Azerbaijani people about the of Khojaly massacre, where over 600 innocent civilians were butchered, including many children, women, and the elderly. We strongly condemn the crimes against humanity committed against Azerbaijani civilians during the occupation of Khojaly, on the night of 25 to 26 February 1992,“ says the statement.
“We acknowledge that all the countries of the region have the right to sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as to the inviolability of their internationally recognised borders. We express our support to the Republic of Azerbaijan in the establishment of lasting peace on its territory, in integration, and reconstruction,” the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group write.
The Parliamentary Friendship Group also took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of lasting peace and stability in the Southern Caucasus, as well as the respect for the principles of international law. “We value dialogue, building of trust, and peaceful development of the region. The Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group appreciates the parliamentary cooperation between our countries and is committed to strengthening it further,” says the Group in its statement.
The Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group is chaired by Maria Jufereva-Skuratovski.
