Vice-President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Taavi Rõivas emphasised today in his speech at the security conference “Future of Freedom” in Kharkiv, East Ukraine, that Russia’s aggression in Ukraine influenced the security of the whole Europe and threatened the Transatlantic security architecture.
“It is not possible that there is a military conflict in one part of Europe, and the other part of Europe is not touched by it,” Rõivas said. “The security of Europe is one whole, and the events in Ukraine are the concern of all of us.”
Rõivas stated that the aim of Russia was to create instability also elsewhere in Europe by using an extensive toolbox, from propaganda and false information to cyber attacks. “Hybrid threats should be regarded as seriously as conventional attacks because they have a similar purpose – to break Europe’s unity and, through it, increase the geopolitical impact of Russia. Estonia has remarkable knowledge in this field, and naturally we have to be ready to share it.”
Vice-President of the Riigikogu Taavi Rõivas will be in Kharkiv until 31 May. Besides speaking at the security conference, he also plans to have meetings with several Ukrainian politicians and security experts. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, Rõivas will visit Sloviansk in order to meet with the Ukrainian troops and to get relevant information from direct source.
