On Saturday, 21 April, the Parliament of Estonia the Riigikogu celebrates its 99th birthday with the traditional Open House Day. In the European Year of Cultural Heritage, workshops of the Estonian Open Air Museum will take the visitors back in time, and the Conservation and Digitization Centre Kanut will introduce its activities. The workshops and a publication of the Estonian Maritime Museum present the exhibition “100 years on Water. The Ships of Estonia 1918–2018” at the Seaplane Harbour. In the Children’s Republic of the Estonian History Museum, children and their friends can build their dream country and watch Estonian cartoon classics. NUKU Museum (puppetry museum) will also participate in the Open House Day with the workshop “NUKU Games”.

In the rooms of the factions, visitors can meet the members of the Riigikogu. At Question Time, it is possible to pose questions to the members of the Government. Guided tours are held throughout the whole day, and everyone can visit the Tall Hermann Tower.

The Riigikogu Open House Day will begin with a welcome concert by folk musicians on the balcony of Toompea Castle. President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor will greet the visitors in the courtyard of the Castle.

At noon, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas, Minister of Defence Jüri Luik and Minister of Culture Indrek Saar will reply to the questions of the people in the Session Hall.

At the discussion “100 Has Arrived. How and Where to Go On?”, members of the Riigikogu Monika Haukanõmm, Liisa Oviir, Henn Põlluaas, Kersti Sarapuu, Helir-Valdor Seeder and Urve Tiidus will hold a debate. Urmas Vaino will moderate the discussion.

This year, the topic of the traditional quiz for the teams of schools and members of the Riigikogu is “The Republic of Estonia 100”.

The Open House Day will be concluded with a Good Mood Concert of the folk musicians from the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy in the White Hall.

The first representative body elected by the people in independent Estonia – the Constituent Assembly – convened in Tallinn on 23 April 1919. The Riigikogu celebrates that event every year with the Open House Day. This year, the Open House Day is held for the 20th time.

The entrance, and all activities and events are free.

Question Time will be streamed online on the Riigikogu website.
