The Presidium of the Baltic Assembly adopted two statements. In the first statement, they express solidarity with Greenland and Denmark, in the second statement they highlight the need to sustain European unity in the negotiations to bring the war in Ukraine to an end.

President of the inter-parliamentary cooperation organization of the Baltic States the Baltic Assembly (BA) Timo Suslov and Vice Presidents of the Baltic Assembly Giedrius Drukteinis and Jānis Vucāns, who met in Vilnius, Lithuania, today, underline in the Statement of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly on Greenland and the Future of Democracy in Europe that the Baltic Assembly, stands in full solidarity with the Nordic region. “The Baltic States stand firmly for territorial integrity and sovereignty of Denmark, as well as are committed to developing further joint steps by the European Union to protect democracy in Europe,” they emphasise in the Statement, and also remind that all decisions on Greenland belong exclusively to the people of Greenland and Denmark.

They underscore that the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark are members of NATO, thus ensuring a platform for addressing challenges related to the security of the Arctic region.

The Presidium of the Baltic Assembly also adopted the Statement on Russia’s Ongoing War of Aggression against Ukraine and International Attempts to End It. The President and the Vice Presidents of the BA call for a coherent European approach to ending the war. They underline that sustained European unity is important in supporting Ukraine and in efforts to bring the aggression to an end, and a coherent European approach is essential to maintaining security and upholding Europe’s core principles.

The Statement emphasises that meaningful negotiations cannot take place while Russian missile and drone attacks against Ukraine continue; therefore, a comprehensive and verifiable ceasefire is a necessary precondition for any credible diplomatic process. The Presidium of the BA stresses in the Statement that “any peace process must be conducted in accordance with international law and with Ukraine’s full consent”.

The sittings of the BA Economics, Energy and Innovation Committee and the BA Budget and Audit Committee were also held in Vilnius today.

The Baltic Assembly (Interparliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania) is a consultative cooperation organisation of the parliaments of the three Baltic States that discusses issues of mutual interest. The Estonian Delegation to the BA is headed by Timo Suslov, Deputy Head of the delegation is Enn Eesmaa. Other members of the Delegation are Arvo Aller, Aleksei Jevgrafov, Meelis Kiili, Irja Lutsar, Tiit Maran, Marek Reinaas, Helir-Valdor Seeder, Margit Sutrop and Peeter Tali.
