Working meeting of the heads of delegations to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from the Nordic Countries and the Baltic States will be held in the Conference Hall of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) today. One of the issues to be discussed at the meeting is the security threats and defence cooperation in the region.
The seminar will be chaired by the head of the Estonian delegation Mart Nutt. In his opinion, all forums are important for introducing and defending our positions in the name of the common interests of the region. “I will certainly discuss the topical issues with my colleagues, and assure the countries of the region that they are supported in solving their problems relating to politics, security, economy, environment and human rights,” Nutt said.
“It is the reality of today that all are mutually dependent on each other. The values and principles of the OSCE do not so much depend on the challenges we face, but on the political will with which we confront them and cooperate,” the head of the Estonian delegation said.
The introductory report will be made by Research Fellow of the International Centre for Defence Studies Henrik Praks, who will give an overview of the security threats and defence cooperation in the region. At the meeting, it is planned to discuss the common plans of the Nordic and Baltic delegations for the participation in the Annual Session and presenting joint positions and draft documents.
Mart Nutt, Mati Raidma and Külliki Kübarsepp are the members of the Estonian delegation to the OSCE PA. President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Ilkka Kanerva will also take part in the meeting.
