At the meeting of the President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Assembly of China, led by Mrs Fu Ying, the events in Ukraine were discussed. “The annexation of Crimea that belongs to Ukraine, and the purposeful supporting of the separatists in the eastern part of Ukraine contradict the principles and documents that have been agreed upon to guarantee the security of Europe during the last decades. The activities of Russia against Ukraine are unacceptable. As a precedent, it is very dangerous. We must not put up with it,” Nestor said. Both sides shared the same opinion – only the people of Ukraine can decide and choose which organisations they want to cooperate with and strive for membership in.

At the meeting, the possibilities for strengthening the trade relations between the states were spoken about, especially in regard to increasing the export of Estonian products. The issues of integration of national minorities were also discussed.

Fu Ying expressed regret that so little is known in China about the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration, and said it was necessary to get to know each other better.

The head of the Chinese delegation Fu Ying forwarded the greetings of the Chairman of the National People’s Assembly of China and the invitation to visit the People’s Republic of China to the President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor.
