Riigikogu

The President of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor highlighted the good cooperation between the two countries at his meeting with the Speaker of the Riksdag Per Westerberg in Stockholm. “Sweden is a good and reliable neighbour to Estonia, a truly close partner. Estonian economy continues to become more closely integrated with Swedish economy. Our countries have common values and attitudes towards global events. And this is only natural. And good,” said the President of the Riigikogu.

Nestor commended the deepening security cooperation between the Nordic and the Baltic countries in the Baltic Sea region, as well as the specific steps taken by Sweden to improve security.

“International security situation changed with the 2008 invasion into Georgia, and became definitely and irreversibly shaped with the annexation of the Crimea and the constant incitement of separatism in Ukraine. Sweden has assessed the situation adequately and reacted accordingly, and its international actions have been constructive. I received further confirmation that the views of our countries coincide on the issue,” said Nestor.

The parliamentary leaders discussed the results of the European Parliament elections and their possible effect on the development of the European Union in the near futuure.

Eiki Nestor also met with the First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag Susanne Eberstein and the Leader of the Social Democratic Party Stefan Löfven. Another meeting took place with the Finance Committee. Nestor also visited the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

The President of the Riigikogu was met by the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf
