Stoicescu and Kunnas attend security and defence forum in Latvia

Today and tomorrow, Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Kalev Stoicescu and Deputy Chairman of the National Defence Committee Leo Kunnas participate in the Annual Security and Defence Forum of the Defence Committees of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Countries in Latvia to discuss regional security situation and strengthening cooperation.

The Chairs of Defence Committees will discuss the security situation of the Baltic Sea region, priorities of defence and security policy, and strengthening the cooperation between the allies. Commander of the National Armed Forces of Latvia, Major General Kaspars Pudāns, Commander of the Latvian National Guard Zemessardze, Brigadier General Aivars Krjukovs, Head of the Crisis Management Centre, Colonel Arvis Zīle, Director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence Jānis Sārts and representatives of the Ministry of Defence will deliver reports at the forum. Tomorrow, the Chairs of Defence Committees will visit the Air Force Base in Lielvārde.

Leaders of the Defence Committees of the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Poland have been invited to participate in the forum.

The National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu has held annual working meetings with the National Defence Committees of the Baltic States since 1998. From 2011, the representatives of the National Defence Committees of the of the Nordic Countries as well as Germany and Poland have also been taking part in these meetings.
