Today and tomorrow, the Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson and members of the Committee Johannes Kert and Marianne Mikko are on a working visit to Sweden. The purpose of the visit is to discuss mutual defence cooperation in the changed security situation.

During the visit, the members of the National Defence Committee will meet with the Speaker of the Riksdag (Parliament of Sweden), members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Defence of the Riksdag, and representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They will also visit the Swedish Defence Research Agency FOI.

“At the meetings, we will first of all focus on the changing of the security environment in the Baltic Sea region, and how Estonia and Sweden have reacted to it. Great changes are taking place in Nordic defence cooperation, and therefore the parliamentary cooperation of Estonia and Sweden in this field has to be intensified,” Mihkelson said before the visit.
