Today and tomorrow the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) is on a visit in Finland, where they will meet with their colleagues in the Parliament of Finland, Minister of Defence of Finland Jussi Niinistö and Chief of the Finnish Defence Command Vice Admiral Kari Takanen.
Chairman of the National Defence Committee Marko Mihkelson said that the security policy situation in the Baltic Sea region and bilateral defence cooperation will be discussed at the meetings during the visit.
Mihkelson said that NATO’s further activities after the Warsaw Summit would also be spoken about with the Finnish colleagues. Besides that, global strategy of the foreign and security policy of the European Union will be discussed.
The delegation of the National Defence Committee consists of Chairman Marko Mihkelson, Deputy Chairman Mart Helme and members of the Committee Ants Laaneots, Oudekki Loone and Madis Milling.
The cooperation of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu and the Defence Committee of the Eduskunta (Parliament of Finland) is one of the longest cooperation relationships of the Riigikogu. Annual meetings have taken place since 1993.
