The Chairman of the National Defence Committee Marko Mihkelson will participate at the high level 13th Yalta European Strategy Annual Meeting in Ukraine today and tomorrow, to discuss the situation in Ukraine besides global issues.
The forum will discuss the possible impact of the US presidential elections to Europe, the challenges facing Europe after Brexit, the refugee crisis, and the spreading of populism in politics. Other topics will include the global threat of terrorism, extremist groups, and issues of social inequality.
The situation in Ukraine, and the reform processes and development opportunities in the country are some of the central topics. A separate discussion will concern Western-Russian relations in a changed geopolitical situation.
350 politicians, diplomats, journalists, analysts, and businessmen from over 50 countries will take part in the forum. The forum will be opened by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Participants include the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, former President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Jensen, former Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis, former Prime Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, and former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
