Today and tomorrow, Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson is on a visit in London, where he will present a report at the Baltic Symposium and meet with his colleagues in the Parliament and the Ministry of Defence of Great Britain.
Mihkelson will speak about new security challenges and fighting against Russia’s revisionism at one of the panel discussions of the Symposium. In his report Mihkelson will focus on the need for and the content of a new Western strategy in curbing the aggressiveness of Russia.
Keynote speech of the Symposium will be delivered by Member of the European Parliament for Latvia Dr Artis Pabriks.
The Symposium will also discuss media freedom versus the power of propaganda, and the history of Russian information warfare and its lessons for the Baltic region. Senior Editor of The Economist Edward Lucas will also attend the discussion.
In the afternoon Mihkelson will meet with Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons Crispin Blunt and Chair of the Defence Select Committee of the House of Commons Julian Lewis. Bilateral defence cooperation and increasing NATO’s common deterrence capability in the Baltic region will be spoken about at the meetings.
Defence cooperation of Great Britain and Estonia and global security situation will be discussed at the meeting in the Ministry of Defence on Thursday.
