The National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu met the delegation of the Defence Committee of the British House of Commons in the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday to discuss the security situation and cooperation in the region.

“There was a very productive and direct discussion which gave our British colleagues an overview of the organisation of national defence in Estonia and of the security challenges in our region,” said the Chairman of the Estonian National Defence Committee Mati Raidma.

“With the security issues again gaining focus in Europe, and the NATO summit coming up in the UK in September, a common interpretation of future opportunities for joint activities, solidity of allied relations and basic principles of collective defence are important for Estonia as well as the UK,” Raidma added.

The delegation of the House of Commons Defence Committee was headed by the Chairman of the Committee Rory Stewart.
