Today, the delegation of the Israel-Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group had meetings with President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Lauri Hussar, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu and its Chairman Marko Mihkelson, and the Estonia-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by Eerik-Niiles Kross.

President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar said at the meeting with Israeli parliamentarians that the free world must fight together so that Ukraine would win the war against Russia, and the peace that would come afterwards would last. “We [Estonia and Israel] must join forces to stand against the axis of evil of Russia, Iran and North Korea,” he said. According to Hussar, Russia’s defeat in Ukraine is very important to discourage Russia from starting another new war. The President of the Riigikogu also pointed out that the Tartu Peace Treaty was concluded on Estonia’s terms thanks to the help of the Allies and Russia’s desire not to remain in isolation. “It is not true that it is not possible to make peace on our terms,” he underlined.

In Hussar’s opinion, the European Union has accepted that the Alliance must play a significantly greater role in the development of defence cooperation and defence industry, and the European Union is capable of producing more and better military equipment than Russia – we just need to cooperate with like-minded countries. “Europe is no longer just a single market, Europe is a force,” he said.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson said after the meeting that the discussion had been frank and straightforward, as good partners should be. “We spoke about the major tensions in world politics, and how important it is for small democracies to stand together under pressure from authoritarian regimes,” he said. At the meeting, international cooperation in helping Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and the prospects of Gaza ceasefire were discussed. Mihkelson also expressed support to the efforts to free the hostages held by Hamas as soon as possible.

The Israel-Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group also met with the Estonia-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group, which is chaired by Eerik-Niiles Kross.

The members of the Israel-Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group assured at the meetings that they supported Ukraine not 99% but 100%, and that they understood very clearly who was the victim and who the aggressor in this conflict.
