Delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu visits Finland
The delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) starts its two-day working visit to Helsinki, Finland, today. Further cooperation in supporting Ukraine and strengthening unity in Europe will be discussed at the meetings held during the visit.
Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson said that the purpose of the visit was to maintain close and friendly cooperation between Estonia and Finland, and to discuss further action in supporting Ukraine and strengthening European security. “Our aim is to do everything in our power to ensure that Europe’s focus remains firmly on supporting Ukraine and countering Russian aggression. In order to preserve and strengthen this unity, we also want to contribute as this year’s holder of the chairmanship of the Nordic-Baltic Cooperation,” he said.
Mihkelson added that the meetings would also address the broader security situation, including the defence of NATO’s eastern border and the fight against hybrid threats and attacks.
During the visit, the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu will meet with President of Finland Alexander Stubb and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Finland. They will also have meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service Juha Martelius.
Mihkelson is accompanied on the visit by members of the Foreign Affairs Committee Eerik-Niiles Kross, Henn Põlluaas, Urmas Reinsalu and Luisa Rõivas.
