During his working visit to Cyprus, Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Kalle Palling today met with the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Yiannakis L. Omirou and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs Averof Neofytou.
Palling introduced the concept of e-government to Neofytou, using the possibilities provided by the Estonian mobile-ID as an example.
“E-solutions and e-government are the things Estonia can offer the world. The point is not just in technological solutions. The issue covers a wider package of solutions, where the laws, openness and solutions make the communication of the citizens with the state more convenient,” Palling said. “Savings resulting from paper-free work and friendliness to the environment are added to that.”
Neofytou and Palling gave a joint press conference to the local media, focusing on e-government and the possibilities of the e-state services.
At the meeting with the President of the Parliament of Cyprus Yiannakis L. Omirou, the impact of the instability of the Mediterranean on the neighbouring Member States of the European Union, and also on the whole EU, was discussed. Palling expressed hope that the conflict in Ukraine would not be forgotten in the shadow of Syria and the refugee crisis.
