The last meeting of the Task Force on Subsidiarity, Proportionality and “Doing Less More Efficiently” is held in Brussels today. The Task Force will deliver a report on its activities to President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
The Task Force prepared a report with recommendations on how to better involve the national parliaments and local authorities of member states in the European Union policy making.
Deputy Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee Jaak Madison represents the Riigikogu at the delivery of the report.
“The European Commission has to take more account of the individual features of the member states, hear the local politicians, and proceed from the principle of union of states, so that the decisions were born as close to the citizen as possible. The Task Force that has met from the beginning of this year has drawn up proposals on how to move closer to this aim. This is just one way of achieving the purpose, and there is still very much to do,” Madison said.
Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee Toomas Vitsut and Deputy Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee Jaak Madison participated in the work of the Task Force on behalf of the Riigikogu. Other members of the Task Force were representatives of the Parliaments of Austria and Bulgaria, and three representatives of the Committee of the Regions. First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans was the Chairman of the Task Force.
