At its today’s sitting, the European Union Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) elected four members from among their number who will represent the Riigikogu at the Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

The most important components of the Conference on the Future are the multilingual digital platform, the European Citizens’ Panels and the Conference Plenary. All national Parliaments have four representatives in the Conference Plenary. The European Union Affairs Committee decided that the delegation of the Riigikogu would consist of Chairman of the Committee Siim Kallas, Deputy Chair Riina Sikkut and members of the Committee Oudekki Loone and Anti Poolamets.

The inaugural Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe will take place in Strasbourg, France, on 19 June in hybrid format. The Conference Plenary will meet every few months to discuss the recommendations from the European Citizens’ Panels. The outcome of the Conference will be presented next spring to three leading institutions, represented by the President of the European Parliament, the President of the Council and the President of the European Commission. After that, it will be decided which activities need to be undertaken to follow up on the recommendations of the citizens.

The Conference on the Future of Europe is an open forum where the European citizens can hold an inclusive and transparent debate. The Conference will enable Europeans to address Europe’s challenges and priorities, to share their ideas and to contribute to shaping our common future. The aim of the Conference is to give the citizens a greater role in shaping the EU’s future policies and ambitions, improving its resilience to both economic and health crises.

The activities, the process and the organisation of the Conference on the Future will be managed by the Executive Board that consists of the representatives from the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission.
