Ergma met high-level Chinese party delegation
The President of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma met member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Li Changchun and the high-level delegation accompanying him at Toompea castle today.
At the meeting, the good relations between Estonia and China and the willingness to develop economic contacts in particular were reconfirmed. It was highlighted that comprehensive mutual cooperation can be promoted even better when we know better each other’s language and culture. Ergma noted that, despite the economic crisis which has gripped the whole world, China has succeeded in managing it, an example of that being the excellent organisation of EXPO in Shanghai. The President of the Riigikogu also gave an overview of the economic situation of Estonia, highlighting the opportunities offered by the accession to the euro zone next year.
From China, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Wang Jiarui and the Minister of Culture Cai Wu participated at today’s meeting among others. From Estonia, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Enn Eesmaa, Chairman of the Estonia–China Parliamentary Group Kalev Kallo, and Mart Nutt, Marek Strandbergand Jüri Tamm participated.
