The Board of the Riigikogu approved the composition of the Committee of Investigation
The Board of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) approved the composition of the Committee of Investigation to investigate the influence activities of the Russian Federation, the methods of financing them, and the risks associated with them in accordance with the proposals of the parliamentary groups of the Riigikogu.
The formation of the Committee was based on the same principle that has been agreed upon for forming the Riigikogu select committees. It means that the number of representatives of the coalition and the opposition is balanced. Thus, both coalition parties have two seats in the committee, and each opposition party has one seat.
Members of the Committee of Investigation are Vladimir Arhipov (Centre Party), Madis Kallas (Social Democratic Party), Anti Poolamets (Estonian Conservative People’s Party), Helir-Valdor Seeder (Isamaa), Timo Suslov and Eerik-Niiles Kross (Reform Party), Peeter Tali and Toomas Uibo (Estonia 200).
The task of the Committee of Investigation is to identify and systematically analyse the Russian Federation’s influence activities, their financing methods, links to the Estonian public sector, propaganda projects, and the risks associated with them. Russia’s influence activities in Estonia are part of a broader strategy that seeks to weaken the security and resilience of the Estonian state, targets Estonia’s Russian-speaking population and social cohesion, and spreads narratives that are damaging to the Estonian state and its allies.
