Riigikogu

Today, Vice-President of the Riigikogu Helir-Valdor Seeder discussed the cooperation between Estonia and Germany and also security issues with the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Baltic States of the German Parliament. It was admitted at the meeting that relations between Estonia and Germany are excellent.

“The relations of politicians, businessmen, artists and people from other areas of life with their German colleagues are excellent. For example, in trade Germany holds the fourth place after Finland, Latvia and Sweden,” Seeder said.

The parliamentarians from Germany wanted to know whether the presence of the security units of the allies corresponded to our needs and expectations. In his reply, Seeder emphasised that, due to their geographical and security policy location, the Baltic States are in the triangle of interests of Russia, keeping in mind the Russian bases in Kaliningrad. Therefore Seeder thinks that the attention and assistance of NATO member states to the Baltic States in the form of deployed battalions and information exchange are vital.

The Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Baltic States is one of the largest friendship groups in the German Parliament Bundestag. It has nearly 40 members.

The delegation of Bundestag’s Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Baltic States also met with the Estonia-Germany Parliamentary Group of the Riigikogu and the members of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu.
