President of the Riigikogu is visiting the United Kingdom
President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Lauri Hussar is travelling to the United Kingdom today. During his visit, he will discuss cooperation between the two countries in supporting Ukraine and strengthening European security.
According to Hussar, the United Kingdom is a close partner and ally for Estonia, contributing to the security of Estonia and Europe as a whole. He said that the meetings held during the visit would provide an opportunity to speak about the further development of relations, including how to strengthen cooperation between the two parliaments.
Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, support for Ukraine, and increasing pressure on Russia will be discussed at the meetings in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. There will also be discussions on expanding defence cooperation, strengthening Europe’s defence capability, and relations with the United States.
On Wednesday, Hussar will meet with Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle and Lord Speaker Michael Forsyth. He will also have meetings with the Foreign Affairs Committee and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Estonia. In the evening, Hussar will attend the Estonian Independence Day Reception for Estonian community in UK at the Embassy of Estonia.
The President of the Riigikogu is accompanied on the visit by Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Marko Mihkelson, Chair of the Estonia – Great Britain Parliamentary Friendship Group Yoko Alender and member of the Estonia – Great Britain Parliamentary Friendship Group Reili Rand.
