Today, the President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar is leaving for Egypt, where he will meet representatives of the parliament, government, and the Arab League, and will open the Estonian Embassy on its new premises.

Hussar would like to dedicate the visit to discussing the security situation in Europe, including Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, and the war in the Middle East. “It is important to strengthen the relations between Estonia and Egypt, discuss expanding digital and defence cooperation, and enhance the cooperation between our parliaments,” he said.

Hussar will be in Egypt until Tuesday, meeting the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hisham Badawi, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Sameh Shoukry, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty. He will also meet the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as well as Nabil Fahmy who will take over this position in the beginning of July. On Monday evening, Hussar will open the new premises of the embassy in Cairo.
