Today the president of the Riigikogu Eiki Nestor will give a speech on the Latvian Restoration of Independence Day at the National Theatre in Riga. He will also open the premiere of the Estonian feature film "1944".
“The history of Estonia and Latvia as neighbours is closely intertwined, we have had both common successes and common sufferings,” Nestor said. “Toady both countries are free and can celebrate their independence days with full joy. Many thanks to the people of Latvia who have been by our side and supporting in our decisions and activities.”
Nestor will give a speech at the Latvian National Theatre, at the festive sitting of the Parliament of Latvia and concert beginning at 12 a.m. It is one of the events celebrating the Restoration of Independence Day. After the concert, Nestor will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument in Riga.
At 6 p.m. Nestor will open the premiere of the Estonian feature film “1944” at the cinema Splendid Palace in Riga. “1944” is a war movie directed by Elmo Nüganen, and it was premiered in Estonia in February. The film deals with the events of World War 2 in Estonia in 1944.
