At the meeting of President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Eiki Nestor and Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér, security of the region and convenience of e-services were discussed in addition to bilateral relations.

Nestor told his Hungarian colleague about the Estonian e-elections and the convenience that goes along with the e-services. In Nestor’s opinion, confidence in the state and the security of services is behind the great popularity of e-services. “Estonia is a country that believes in the Internet,” Nestor said. “It would not be so if people did not believe in it, and if all these services were not so convenient.”

It was admitted at the meeting that bilateral relations were brotherly and cooperation functioned excellently both at the European Union and NATO level. The two countries are members of both organisations.

Nestor expressed gratitude to Hungary for its support in ensuring the security of the region within the framework of NATO. Hungary will send a motorised infantry company to Estonia this summer, and is planning to participate again in Baltic air policing in 2019.

The Hungarian Speaker assured that they liked serving in the Baltic States more than anywhere else. According to him the Hungarians are very well aware of Estonia’s geopolitical location and concerns with its neighbour. He promised to do everything that Hungary would participate in our common security policy also in the future.
