President of the Riigikogu Lauri Hussar is in Denmark, taking part in the Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments (EUSC) from today until Tuesday. The conference focuses on the security situation, enhancing democratic resilience, and supporting EU enlargement.

The speakers will discuss the role of Europe in the changing world order, plagued by insecurity and new challenges in ensuring security. In addition to the security situation, the participants will discuss the enlargement of the community and ways for parliaments to support the candidate countries.

Hussar will also speak at the discussion on EU enlargement, conveying Estonia’s message that the enlargement must be based squarely on common values, agreed conditions, and the actual progress made by the candidate countries.

In the second part of the event, the leaders of parliaments will talk about strengthening the resilience of democratic societies but also ensuring the security and resilience of parliaments themselves, i.e. how parliaments have prepared for crises, including hybrid threats.

Hussar will take part in the meeting of the Nordic and Baltic presidents of parliaments during the conference in Copenhagen. He also has a separate meeting scheduled with the Marshal of the Sejm of Poland Włodzimierz Czarzasty to discuss cooperation, support for Ukraine, and transatlantic relations.

Tonight, Hussar and speakers of other EU national parliaments are attending a dinner hosted by the King of Denmark Frederik X.
