Hussar confirmed Estonia’s strong support to Deputy Chair of Ukrainian Parliament
Today, President of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Lauri Hussar met with Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk, who is visiting Estonia, and confirmed that Estonia would continue to strongly support Ukraine in the war of aggression initiated by Russia.
Hussar said at the meeting that Estonia would continue to support Ukraine in every way possible and would do everything in its power to increase the cost of aggression for Russia and maintain the unity of Western countries. He noted that Estonia’s military support to Ukraine amounted to at least 0.25 percent of GDP. “In order to put pressure on Russia, we must continue to strengthen sanctions, and we must also continue to work to make use of Russia’s frozen assets,” he said.
Hussar pointed out that last week, the Riigikogu had approved the Council of Europe agreement on setting up an advance team for establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. “This makes Estonia the first country where the parliament has approved the agreement. We call on other countries to join the agreement at the earliest opportunity,” he said, and underlined that Russia must be held accountable for the crimes and destruction it had committed in Ukraine.
Kondratiuk will also have meetings with Vice-President of the Riigikogu Toomas Kivimägi, Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Peeter Tali, Chairman of the Estonia-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group Eerik-Niiles Kross and member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Mati Raidma.
During her one-day visit in Tallinn, Kondratiuk also met with Minister of Defence of Estonia Hanno Pevkur and representatives of the State Electoral Office.
