Riigikogu

At today’s meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Estonia Murad Najafbayli and representatives of the Azerbaijan diaspora, members of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Group and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) assured that they supported peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Chairman of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Group Sven Sester emphasised that the Parliamentary Group continued to stand for resolving of the conflict peacefully, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law. “The best war is the one that is not started, and in the current situation, it is very important that the parties of the conflict would again sit at the negotiation table. We condemn all statements that divide the international community and the local community and do not contribute to finding a peaceful solution,” Sester said.

Sester added that all countries of the region had the right to sovereignty and territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognised borders.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Enn Eesmaa said that the Committee was concerned about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. “We get a lot of information from both Azerbaijan and Armenia, but unfortunately there are no messages of peace,” the Chairman of the Committee added.

The meeting was attended by members of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Group Mihhail Korb, Kalle Laanet, Igor Kravtšenko and Raivo Tamm, and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Maria Jufereva-Skuratovski and Mihhail Lotman.

The members of the Riigikogu met with Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Estonia Murad Najafbayli and representatives of the Azerbaijan diaspora, headed by Nijazi Gadžijev. They expressed deep concern about the escalation of the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and violation of the ceasefire that had been achieved. The Ambassador pointed out that Azerbaijan had several times shown readiness to sit at the common negotiations table.
