Today, Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson and members of the Committee Madis Milling and Marianne Mikko start their three-day visit to France, where they will meet with their colleagues from the Senate and National Assembly of France.

Mihkelson said that the purpose of the visit to France was to make preparations with the allies for the NATO Summit in Warsaw in July and to collect information for drawing up a report on the deterrence capability of NATO.

In France, the Estonian delegation will meet with the Vice-President of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee of the Senate Christian Cambon and members of the office of the Committee, and with the President of the National Defence and Armed Forces of the National Assembly Patricia Adam.

Besides meetings in the Parliament, the delegation of the National Defence Committee will also have meetings at the Ministry of Defence of France (DGRIS). They will also visit the headquarters of MBDA, the largest developer and manufacturer of missiles in Europe.

The National Defence Committee’s visit to France is a continuation of their visits to Poland in March and to Belgium in April of this year. The information collected at the meeting will be used for the preparation of the report on NATO deterrence capability in the Baltic Sea area, its current situation and perspectives, which is planned to be launched in the beginning of June.
